Discovering feelings and strengthening boundaries

A sex education prevention concept for kindergartens

Children in kindergarten discover their bodies, their feelings, and their relationships with the world. This is precisely where "Discovering Feelings – Strengthening Boundaries" comes in: a playful, age-appropriate workshop concept for children aged 3 to 6 that strengthens emotional competence, body awareness, and personal boundaries.

Using hand puppets, movement, creative methods and child-friendly conversations, children learn to perceive feelings, correctly name body parts, say no and treat themselves and others with care.

Why prevention begins in kindergarten

Prevention doesn't mean frightening children. Prevention means empowering them.

During kindergarten age, children develop important foundations for their self-image, their ability to form relationships, and their body awareness. They learn to recognize feelings, express needs, and distinguish between pleasant and unpleasant situations.

The concept
child-friendly, playful and relationship-oriented

The focus is on seven hand puppets that make feelings visible and tangible. Through stories, games, movement, and creative exercises, children encounter themes such as joy, anger, fear, sadness, love, and peace.

The concept works with proven basic principles of sex education and prevention: perception of feelings, knowledge of the body, competence in setting boundaries, competence in saying no, and the child-friendly body traffic light method.

The children are not lectured, but invited to think along, empathize, and contribute their own experiences. This creates a lively approach to prevention that is age-appropriate, empowering, and relevant to everyday life.

3 workshop modules

Module 1: Discovering Feelings

The children learn about the world of emotions. Using hand puppets, they discover basic feelings such as joy, anger, fear, sadness, love, and calm. Through facial expressions, body language, and movement, their ability to express themselves emotionally is strengthened.

Module 2: My Body, My Limits

This module focuses on body awareness, personal boundaries, and the body's traffic light system. Children learn: My body belongs to me. Some touches feel good, some depend on the situation, and some are not okay.

Module 3: My Body & I

All body parts can be named correctly—naturally, without shame, and in an age-appropriate way. The children learn that their bodies are valuable and belong entirely to them. At the same time, they explore what can help with strong emotions.
